After weeks and weeks of Mary asking me to write a blog post, I’m finally getting down to it. Most of the stuff we post here has been about things that have happened or will be happening very soon. But I’d like to take a minute and talk about what we’d like to see happen in the next year or so. So buckle up, because things are about to get crazy in here!

Two years ago we decided that it would be fun for us to take sailing lessons. Surprise, it was awesome! And by the time our first class was over, with all of my 2 hours of dinghy-sailing experience, I was looking at boats. When I started looking at them, I quickly realized something: new boats are expensive. Initially, I wanted a small Laser or Butterfly – something we could trailer around with our little compact cars without much fuss. Once I saw the price of new Lasers and Hobie cats was over $5,000… well I started looking elsewhere.

It didn’t take long for me to find that I could buy a 20 something foot boat for about the same price as a nice Hobie Cat or Laser, so after a few weeks of searching I found us great little day-sailor. It was an S2 7.3 by the name of Fuzz. Since that day we’ve had dozens of great overnight trips along the coast of Lake Michigan. We’ve grown to love sailing SO much, that our honeymoon was a bare boat charter in the BVI. We spent 7 days living on a 38 foot Dufour exploring the islands, snorkeling, and enjoying the pristine sailing that is the BVIs.

This is all well and good, except for one thing. Now we want a bigger boat that we can live on for a while. 24 feet just won’t cut it with the two of us and the dogs! In the coming weeks, we’ll be keeping you all up to date on the searching and acquiring process, as it’s something that is daunting for first time big boat buyers and potential liveaboards.
