Snorkeling the Reef at Fiddle Cay [Bahamas]

Fiddle Cay is mostly known for it’s Summer celebration, Cheeseburger in Paradise, an event hosted by the Green Turtle Cay community. The tradition provides FREE cheeseburgers, drinks, and a huge following of locals from all over the Bahamas. It’s a massive party that takes up all of the beach and anchorage at Fiddle Cay. Everything donated goes to local schools and community groups in need. Check out their Instagram to see what the party looks like –> Cheeseburger in Paradise Instagram

We’ve yet to be around for this fun party but have checked out the beaches and beautiful reef just between Fiddle Cay and Green Turtle Cay. Maybe this June we’ll be back to enjoy Cheeseburger in Paradise!

Snorkeling the Reef at Fiddle Cay

We’ve been doing some spearfishing but this is the first time we’ve been snorkeling for the season. The reefs outside of Fiddle Cay are beautiful. If you miss the reef on this island, there are plenty other areas to snorkel different parts of the reef too! There is healthy coral and cuts for boats to pass by to keep the reef protected. It’s a great area to stop and snorkel because you can anchor your boat between Fiddle Cay and Green Turtle Cay near Crab Rock. From there, you can take your dinghy and anchor near where you’d like to swim. I believe there are mooring balls nearby but we were not able to find them right away. If you prefer having some guidence before snorkeling an area, Brendal’s Dive Shop is great for their daily excursions or getting scuba certified.

It was a bit of a windy day so we only swam the closer part of the reef but could have explored for hours with how much marine life we were seeing. Highlights of our trip were seeing Yellowtail Snapper, Gray Angelfish, Stoplight Parrotfish, HUGE Porcupinefish, and all sorts of other reef fish in different shapes and sizes. There wasn’t a dull moment while snorkeling this reef because of the variety of sea creatures and the challenging swim we had from the swell and wind picking up.

Beach Combing at Fiddle Cay

Taking a walk along the beach at Fiddle Cay, you’ll notice the beach grow as the tide leaves. No wonder this island would be set up for a fun event like Cheeseburger in Paradise! All sizes of conch show up on the shore and shelling is quite prominent here. There are a ton of sea biscuits and would be a great beach to sunbathe at. We only spent a little while walking around but was by far one of the most surprising beaches we’ve been at so far. Here’s a mini video of a baby conch we found while walking around the beach <3

Cheers and thanks for watching 🙂

After reading your introduction, all i can think about now is cheeseburgers! Sounds like such a fun event. I am not much of a snorkeler but I still love going out on the boat and being in the water so a day trip sounds like a good idea.
